With their love for odd sounds and their special eye for interlocking acoustic and visual action, the young composition and performance duo Mercier / Böttcher has become an insider tip on the independent music theater scene. In their opening piece for the festival, they contemplate the absurdity of life from inside the drum of a washing machine. What is concealed behind the strange idea of “Reinheit” that detergent commercials have been suggesting to Germans for generations? What is the real story behind a medieval legend about washwomen? And isn't the cycle of a washing machine actually a profound symbol for the chapters of our lives from the cradle to the grave? You will never again just thoughtlessly fill up your machine!
