HAUEN·UND·STECHEN

GOLD

With wild deconstructions of the opera repertoire and their own emotionally charged theater language, Hauen und Stechen have become one of the most distinguished groups in the Berlin music theater scene. Their projects seek interaction with the audience and leave space for improvisational impulses from the performers. GOLD is the third evening of their four-part project “Fidelio – a German nightmare in four episodes”, whose individual titles are based on the colors of the German flag.

For two years now, the freedom fighter Florestan has been imprisoned without charge. His wife secretly continues the political struggle. Meanwhile, the prisoner has become a symbol, her efforts are about more than just the liberation of an individual. But nobody gets fed by idealism alone. The movement needs money. Leonore counts the cash. She asks herself – how can revolution be financed? How much does a human being cost, how much does humanity cost?
