Inner Monologue + Misspiece

Mapping Music Theater: Poland
approx. 90 minutes

As guest country, BAM! is dedicating itself this year to a nation that exerted decisive influence on the international theater avant-garde. This performance-oriented evening proves that theater in Poland has lost none of its rigor and intensity. Exploring the role of the body and the role of language from various angles, it also probes the limits of our understanding of music theater.

In a moving tour de force, Wojtek Ziemilski breaks down the boundaries between play and reality by entering into a dialogue with his own body—attempting to understand “how we can get along with each other”.

Dominika Wiak’s approach to her body is not one of alienation; she confronts it as a medium of identification and liberation that is necessary to find one's own speech in the first place. In search of her story and her voice as a woman, she returns to her body as a potential for constant movement, creation, and transformation—a shelter and a source of personal unfolding. Rafał Ryterski, who has another work on display in the festival, wrote the music for this piece.
